Street Dance is an umbrella term that encompasses hip-hop, breaking, popping, locking, house, waacking and voguing. It was born in urban areas of 1970’s U.S.A., rather than in a studio or theatre setting like many other dance styles. Street dance is one of the most popular styles of dance for young people, and is performed in many music videos.
Jazz Dance is a culmination of African and European dance styles which developed in the U.S.A. It uses isolations and syncopations, and is full of energy and style. Original jazz dancing includes famous steps like the Charleston and The Lindy Hop. However, Jazz has evolved over the years and modern jazz dance has become what we see on the stages of the West End and Broadway with high kicks, leaps, and pirouettes. This modern jazz style is what The Original Dance Academy teaches.
Acrodance combines the artistic nature of dance with gymnastics-based tricks. This style has become very popular in the last fifteen years due to shows such as So You Think You Can Dance and Dance Moms. This class teaches flexibility, strength, balance and coordination. Students begin with basic stunts such as forward rolls, cartwheels, and beginner balances. More advanced students will add to their skills repertoire with more advanced tumbling, balances, and partner lifts. Dancers who train in acrodance tend to be stronger, more flexible and more fearless.
